Massage Therapy Accreditation, Approval, Insurance Coverage, Organizations and Associations

• ABMP - Associated Bodywork and Massage Professionals - This association has a membership of 65,000 and is the largest massage membership organization in the country. ABMP provides comprehensive liability insurance and practice support for massage/bodywork practitioners and students.
• AMC - American Massage Council is the nation’s oldest massage therapy risk purchasing group providing malpractice protection coverage at very competitive rate. AMC was established in 1986.
• AMTA - American Massage Therapy Association - This association represents more than 58,000 massage therapists. ATMA works to establish massage therapy as integral to the maintenance of good health and complimentary to other therapeutic processes; to advance the profession through ethics and standards, continuing education, professional publications, legislative efforts, public education, and fostering the development of members.
• COMTA - Commission on Massage Therapy Accreditation - a non-profit independent body, seeks to improve the quality of education for students seeking education in the fields of massage therapy and bodywork through an accreditation process that reflects the current and emerging professional practice standards.
• IMA - The International Massage Association - An Association that supports massage practitioners by offering numerous benefits including Professional Liability Insurance (malpractice) and Premises Liability Insurance (trip and fall). This organization also insures you for Advertising, Personal injury, Rental Damage, and Product Liability. Other services include listing you in their directory, access to health Insurance and 401K Retirement Plan help. They will also provide free business website with design support. Over 70,000 have joined the IMA Group, Inc.
• MTF - Massage Therapy Foundation - Established by leaders of the American Massage Therapy Association (ATMA). The Massage Therapy Foundation mission advances the knowledge and practice of massage therapy by supporting research, education, and community service.

National Testing

• NCBTMB - National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork - National Certification Examination for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork - national testing providing the highest national standard in the massage field.
